What is CAA?
Introduced by Home Minister Amit Shah, the Act amends the Pre-Citizenship Act 1955, which makes refugees of Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan eligible for citizenship. In addition, the bill exempts the interior line permits in Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh and the areas covered by the Sixth Schedule. This is applicable after members of these communities arrive in India on or before December 31, 2014.
